Today in class we learned how to multiply improper fractions.
- change the mixed numbers to improper fractions. (denominator x whole + numerator)
- multiply the numerators
- multiply the denominators
- simplify to mixed fractions
Here is an example of what it would look like if you were to do the question 2 1/3 x 1 1/4 =
Remember to Multiply the denominator to the whole and then add the numerator.
( 2x3+1=7 )
__________
3
( 1x4+1=5 )
__________
4
7/3 x 5/4 = 35/ 12
As step number 4 said : make it into a mixed fraction
Now we have to see how many times 12 goes into 35.
12 goes in to 35 two times so the answer is 2.
