A new size of a container would be 18, and I got that by adding the 6 cups and 12 cups I had on the chart.One would be 24 which I got it by timesing 12 by 2.The third would be 3 which i got by dividing 6 cups by 2.

1. 2/3 + 1/4 + 2/5 =
for question 1 i would use clocks. 2/3 in clocks 20 min, 1/4 in clocks 15 min, and 2/5 in clocks is 24 min. now i add 20+15+24=59 min.

2. 6/5 - 11/10=
For question 2 i would use money. 5/5 in money is 100 cents i added another 20 cents because it would be 6/5. 10/10 in money is 100 cents I added another 10 cents so it can be 11/10 so now 11/10 is 110 cents and 6/5 is 120. Now I add 110+120=230 or in money 4 dollars and 50 cents.

for question 3 it is the double number line below

i did nothing

5. 5/6 - 1/4 =
For question 5 I would use clocks. 5/6 is 50 min because 1/6 is 10 min. 1/4 is 15 min so now I add 10+50=60 witch is 1 hour.

6. 3 3/5 - 1 4/5 =
For question 6 I would use money because 3 wholes is is three dollars and 1 whole is one dollar. 3/5 is 60 cents and 4/5 is 80 cents. So now i add 60+80=140 in money that is 2 dollars and 20 cent and now add 1+3+2=5 dollars so now it equals 5 dollars and 20 cents.

David's 2nd Growing Post


Question One:

1. What strategies were needed?
- I just used a large ratio table for this test, but im sure you could use more.

2. How did you use these strategies?
- With a ratio table, whatever you did to one side of it, you had to do to the other to keep it equal. So i put the total amount of the package, shreddies, pretzels, and peanuts, and tried to get the total amount to the correct total. Finding the unit fraction or getting the nuimber to 1 would be a pretty good place to start because once you have 1, you can do anyhting to it and find out easily like 1 x 29348579038570980975279 = 29348579038570980975279.


3. Or How could you have used these strategies.
- Like i said before you could have used more, but i took the easy path and just made a ratio table to answer it. Also because im not so sure about how to do it with clocks, money, or a double numberline. The numbers they gave us weren't that friendly for clocks, or money, and a double numberline gets confusing for this type of question. Its possible but requires to much thinking so i used the plain old ratio table.

4. How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack Mix?
Use a ratio table.


-As you can see from that ratio table, I put down was 12 was first since I already knew from what i did on the test. Then i divided 12 by 2 to get 6 cups of snack mix and divided the $18 i have over there by 2 also to keep it equivalent.

A new size would be 18, and i got that by adding the 6 cups and 12 cups i had on that chart. Another one would be 24 which i got by multiplying 12 by 2. And the third would be 3 which i got by dividing 6 cups by 2.

- Well I only used the ratio table strategy along with some division and multiplication but I didn't really use the clock, money and number line strategy.

- I could of used the Number Line strategy seeing as it would make more sense than using clocks and money because some of the numbers wouldn't go into it so I could of used the Number Line strategy but I probably wasn't thinking of using it because ratio tables were pretty good for answering most of these questions.

Andrea's 2nd Growing Post

1.) What Strategies were needed?

The strategies that were needed were a ratio table, money, clocks, and double numberlines.

We'll I used money and clocks to explain my answers.

Question 1.

What strategies were used?
The Strategies that i used were multiplication, division and i used a ratio table.

How did you use the strategies?
I used multiplication and division with the ratio table to figure out the new size containers. I also used these strategies to figure out the prices of each new size containers.

Or how could you have used these strategies?
I stuck with the ratio table because that was the first thing that i thought of. I could of done a clock or a number line too. I think the ratio table was the easiest.

How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix? Use a ratio table.

My strategy was to divide the number of pizzas by the number of people and do the same thing to the people to get how many slices per person.



Group one : Sally Bob, Gidget and Biff Share 3 pizzas.
So this on i divided 4 by 4 which is 1, and then i divided 3 by 4 which is 0.75 or 3/4. So each person gets 3/4 of a pizza.



Group 2 Stan, Holly, Barry, Ben and Ichkabibble share 4 pizzas.
For this group i divided 5 people by 5 to get 1 and divided 4 by 5 to figure out how many slices per person. And i got 4/5 per person


Group 3 Eric, Susy,James, Betty, Veronica and Moose share 5 pizzas.
So group three has 6 people and they have 5 pizzas all together. So you divide 5 by 6 for each pizza slice for each person and i got 5/6.

Group 4 Paul, Alex, Chris, Jughead, Archie, Reggie, Mr. Wotherspoon and Midge share 7 pizzas.
So the last group had 8 people and 7 pizzas to share. So i divided the pizzas by 8 and the people by 8 also and each person has 7/8 of a pizza.

Group 1 gets the most pizzas.

Nathaniel's 2nd Growing Post

Question 1

1) What strategies were needed?
- Ratio tables, Money, Clocks, Number line

2) How did you use these strategies?
- I used a ratio table to answer most of them, then division and multiplication to get the amount of cups for each container. I put the price on one side and the cups on the other to find the price. For the cups I just used multiplication and division.

3) Or how could you have used these strategies?
- I think it may have been better to use number lines to answer, since money wouldn't work that well, and clocks too. For number line I could've used it to find the price of the containers.

4) How would you figure out the price of a 6 cup bag of Betty's Snack mix?

Equivalence - I would use equivalence by finding a denominator that works with both of them. To find that out, I would count by 8 and see if 12 goes into it. And if it does, then the denominator works with both of them. 8 ÷ 12 = A decimal so that doesn't work.
16 ÷ 12 = A whole with a decimal, still doesn't work.
24
÷ 12 = 2. This is the number that 8 and 12 can go into. So to find out the numerators, since to get 8 into 24 you have to multiply by 3, so i multiply the numerator, which is 8 by 3 also. I would get 21/24. For Rachel I would multiply by two since you multiply 12 by 2 to get 24. Then you would get 22/24. Which shows that Rachel ran farther by 1/24.
Fractions show operations - Fractions show operations means that fractions show division easily. 7/8 of 26 really means 7 ÷ 8 x 26. Well for Mark, 7/8 = 0.875 which is 87.5%. And Rachel ran 11/12 which is 11/12 = 0.916 which is 91.6%. This also shows that Rachel ran farther. Then you can do 7/8 then multiply that by 26 to find out how much 7/8 of 26 is. You would get 22.75. Same for Rachel. 11/12 then multiply that by 26. You get 23.83. Also proves that Rachel ran farther
Ratio Tables (Proportional Reasoning) - Ill use a picture.

Rachel's Blue area is larger than Mark's which means that Rachel ran farther
Partial Products or the Distributive Property - This is where you change a number like 7/8 into something easier to work with. You can cut 7/8 into 4/8 (half) + 3/8. So half of 26 is 13. To find 3/8 you can do 3/8 x 26 and get 9.75. 9.75 + 13 = 22.75. For Rachel, 11/12 can be put into 6/12 (half) and 5/12. Half of 26 is 13. 5/12 x 26 = 10.83. Add them up = 23.83.
The Whole Matters - This means that if you're comparing fractions. THE WHOLES HAVE TO BE THE SAME. You can't compare something if its 1/3 of 24 and 2/5 of 125. The wholes have to be the same. You can use this to answer the question by keeping the wholes the same size.
Friendly Fractions - To use this you can turn, an ugly 7/8 into a bunch of little 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8. 1/8 = 0.125 then multiply by 7 = 0.875 or 7/8 then multiply by 26 to find 7/8 of 26. Same with 1/12. 1/12, 1/12, 1/12, 1/12, 1/12, 1/12, 1/12, 1/12, 1/12, 1/12. 1/12 = 0.083 x 11 = 0.913 or 11/12. Then multiply by 26 to find out 7/8 of 26.

Jonah's Second Growing Post

Question 1

1. What strategies were needed?
- There were lots of strategies that I could of used like a ratio table, a clock, a number line, and money. With those strategies you could divide, subtract, add, and multiply.

2. How did you use these strategies?
- I first used money but that didn't work out. So I used a ratio table and I added, divided, and multiplied.

3. Or How could you of used these strategies?
- With money I don't think it would work because some of the numbers wouldn't fit well with the strategy. Clocks wouldn't work out too because there aren't many fractions to work with and that the numbers don't really fit well with the numbers that work well with a clock. A ratio table would work better because it shows that what you do on one side with the number or fraction you do the same thing one the other side with the number or fraction.
