emilyr's pythagoras growing post

1)
Describe what a Pythagorean Triple is and use your perfect square chart from 1 squared to 10 squared to find another one other than 3,4,5.

Pythagorean Triple ; is a set of three numbers. that are squared [²] A² and B² are the legs of the triangle and C² is the hypotenuse. A² + B² = C² EXAMPLE ; 3, 4, 5 is a Pythagorean triple.

2)Using embeddable web 2.0, describe how to find the missing side of a Right Triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem, show how to solve both for a missing leg and the hypotenuse (note: you may use numerical examples ie. a=4 b=6 c=?)

3)
Explain how to solve a Pythagoras word problem. Use one of the examples we covered in class (Worksheet A, B, LeFrog or Bonus Problem).

Le Frog stands 1.5 m from the wall where a fly is 2 m high. If the frogs tongue comes out of his mouth 70 cm from the ground, how far does his tongue have to stretch to trap and eat the fly?

4) Now that you have seen many Pythagorean problems, create your own word problem.
The king has just grounded the princess and she can't leave the castle. Luckily she has an escape plan with some help from her boyfriend. Her boyfriend is standing outside the castle but is 15 feet meters away because a moat filled with water is in his way. Her boyfriend needs a ladder to reach the 50 foot high castle. Her boyfriend needs to know how long the ladder should be so he can save the princess ?
