EmilyDeSousa's First Growing Post

3). Which set of fractions is larger 1/2 + 1/6 or 1/4 + 7/12. I would recommend that you use the idea of clocks to show your understanding.

If you cut the first clock into
2 pieces and colour in 1 side,
you get 1/2. It will make 30 minutes
because 60/2 equals 30. and 60 is the
number of minutes, and 2 is how many
pieces you cut it into.
The second one;
If you cut the clock into 6 pieces and colour in
1 piece. You get 10 minutes!

I think 1/4+7/12 is larger than 1/2+1/6=)

If you cut the clock into 4 pieces
and colour in 1. You get 15 mimutes.
The second one;
If you cut the clock into 12 pieces
an d colour in 7 you get 35 minutes.
The clock is divided into 12 pieces and 7
is 35 minutes.

is my math game that I found. You have to play a board game, and ever
stage is always different. In one you are a bee and you have to click on the wind(cloud)
and the math anwser comes out and you have to match it with the right question on the
flower. The next stage you have to blow up the rocks that has a math question in it, and than
you have to blow up another rock to find out the anwser. [you see what happends next]!

Leta and Emily's Bikerace=)

All me and Leta did was divided 60 to what ever the number is that you have to divided
it by. Like for example;
60 divided by 12 equals 5
60 divided by 6 equals 10
60 divided by 3 equals 20
Yesss, I do see a pattern; the pattern I see is you always have to divided it
by 60, and your anwser is going up by 5's!
One way is to draw a clock than cut it into 16 pieces and than you
divided 16 by 4 and then colour in 4 pieces. which is 4 pieces coloured and 12
pieces left over!
I choose the number 16.
First you do
16/4=4
4x3=12
4 is the number of coloured in pieces,
and 12 is the number of pieces left over!

The fraction question I chose is which one is larger; 1/2+3/4 or 6/12+1/2??
1/2+3/4=75 minutes. i got that by doing this;
60/4=15
than;
15x3=45
but than half of 60 is 30 so than you
do;
30+45=75 minutes!
6/12+1/2=60 minutes
60/12=5
than;
5x6=30
but half of 60 is 30 so than you do;
30+30=60 minutes
So than 1/2+3/4 is larger than 6/12+1/2
