Slide 1
1/4 + 2/4 is larger than 1/6+3/6
This is so because if u divide a a clock
1/4= 15 mins and 2/4= 30 mins
so if you add those together it equals 45/60
1/6 = 10 mins and 3/6= 30mins
so if you add those together it equals 40/60
(the denominator is 60 because the clock has 60 mins)
So therefore 1/4+2/4 is larger than 1/6+3/6

Slide 2
5/12 + 1/12 is larger than 1/3 + 1/12
This Is So Because if you didvide ta clock
5/12= 25 mins and 1/12= 10 mins
so if you add those together it equals 35/60
1/3= 20 mins and 1/12= 10 mins
So If you add those together it equals 30/60
(the denaminator is 60 because there is 60mins in a clock)
So therefore 5/12+1/12 is larger than 1/3+1/12

Slide 3
Well the first person gets 3/4 of a sub so
the next person gets 6/4
I will Make A Chart ^__^ There easier to read

People SUbs
1 3/4
2 6/4
3 9/4
4 12/4
5 15/4
6 18/4
7 21/4
8 24/4
9 27/4
10 30/4

Well the pattern i see is
that the numerator stays the same.
and the denominator goes/increases
by 3

And For the eleveth person you would need
33/4 subs or 8 1/4 subs

Slide 4
Well I'm Not sure if this is right but here it goes anyway

4 goes into 9 is the same as 4/9
4 goes into 9 not 9/4

Slide 1:

2/4 + 1/4 is bigger than 1/6 + 3/6 because 1/4 on a clock = 15 mins and 2/4 = 30 mins. Altogether this equal 45 mins out of 60 mins.
1/6 = 10 mins and 3/6 = 30 mins. Altogether that equals to 40 mins out of 60 mins.

Slide 2:

5/12 + 1/12 is bigger than 1/3 + 1/4 because 5/12 on a clock = 25 mins and 1/12 = 10 mins. Altogether that equals 35 mins out of 60 mins. 1/3 = 20 mins and 1/12 = 10 mins. Altogether that equals 30 mins out of 60 mins.

Slide 3:

The 1st person get's 3/4 of a sub and the next person will get 6/4 of a sub because the pattern in this table shows that the denominator stays the same and the numerator goes up by 3.
Like This:
1. 3/4
2. 6/4
3. 9/4
4. 12/4
5. 15/4
6. 18/4
7. 21/4
8. 24/4
9. 27/4
10. 30/4
And for the 11th sub it will be 33/4.

Slide 4:

I do not quite understand slide four, but i think this is what it means.
4 into 9 is 4 groups of 9. Like a fraction 4/9.
4 into 9 is not 9/4.

Part 1

Slide 2 ~
5/12 + 1/12 ~ 1/3 + 1/12

Lets make it easier. Add the fractions first so...
5/12 + 1/12 = 6/12 which = 1/2.
1/3 + 1/12, Ill turn 1/3 into a fraction out of 12 so its easier.
Multiply the numerator and denominator by 4.
You get 4/12,
So 4/12 + 1/12 = 5/12
Now we compare..
6/12 is larger than 5/12 so.
5/12 + 1/12 is larger than 1/3 + 1/12!

Part 2

Well the pattern would be that the people is going up by one and the subs
would be going up by 3/4. So for 1 person it would be 3/4 of a sub.
2 people would be 6/4 because since each person get 3/4 you add another 3/4, that would be
6/4 or 1 2/4. The eleventh sub would be 33/4 or it can be 8 1/4.

Part 4

I didn't really understand the question but if your talking about it like a fraction..
4 into 9 is the same as... - 4/9
4 goes into 9 is NOT... 9/4??

slide 3

for person 11 they get 34/4 of a sub. ..
because the patter of the nummerator is going up by 3 while the denomanator stays the same.

slide 4
4 goes into 9 is the same as 9/4=2.25 or 9/4 or 4 4/9 (<- the long division way) or 21/4

4 goes into 9 is NOT 9/4 because thats an improper fraction.

Slide 1:
1/4 + 2/4 > 1/6 + 3/6

1) 1/4+2/4 is larger because when you divide a clock 1/4 is 15 minutes per peice, and 2/4 is 30 minutes per peice. ( 15+30=45mins )
2) 1/6 is 10minutes of a clock and, 3/6 is 30 minutes of a clock.
( 10+30=40minutes )

Slide 2:

5/12 + 1/12 > 1/3 + 1/12

1) 5/12 + 1/12 is larger because when you divide a clock 5/12 is 25 minutes and, 1/12 is only 5 minutes. ( 25+5=30minutes )

2) When you divide a clock into 1/3 it's only 20 minutes and, 1/12 is 5 minutes. ( 20+5=25minutes )

Slide 3:

For slide 3 the numerator always goes up by 3 and the denominator stay the same.

Slide 4:

4 goes into 9 is the same as saying 9/4 because it equals 2.25 .

4 goes into nine is not 9/4.

I chose slide 2, 5/12 + 1/12 or 1/3 + 1/12

The rule is if the denominators are the same, compare the numerators. That rule goes with addition too. So:
5 + 1 = 6
-----------
12--12--12

6/12 is 1/2 or if looking at a clock, 30 minutes or a half hour.

To simply compare the next two fractions (1/3 + 1/12), you can make 1/3 have a denominator of 12 by multiplying it by 4. Whatever you do to the denominator, you must do to the numerator as well :
1 x 4 = 4
------------
3 x 4 = 12

1/3 as a fraction with a denominator of 12 is 4/12, or 20 minutes if looking on a clock.
Now simply add 4/12(1/3) and 1/12, not changing the denominator.
4 + 1 = 5
----------
12--12--12

5/12 is, if looking at a clock in minutes, 25 minutes. Where 6/12 is 30 minutes if looking at a clock

The 2 end fractions [ 5/12 {1/3 + 1/12) and 6/12 (5/12 + 6/12) ] can be compared to find which is bigger and seeing as though the denominator is the same, simply look at the numerator.

6/12 and 5/12. For 6/12, it is at the half (if simplified would be 1/2) and 5/12 is less than half.

Another way you can find which is larger is by subtracting both the numerators. If the difference is a positive number, the first number being subtracted from is larger, and the opposite if its a negative number.

6 - 5 = 1
----------
12--12--12

Slide #1
I think that 1/4 +2/4 is bigger because it is closer to a whole if you add it together. 1/6 + 3/6 is smaller becasue if you add it together it is farther away from a whole.

Slide #2
I think that 1/12 +5/12 is larger because if you divide a clock into into 12 there would be 12 five minutes and if you add five minutes five times you get 25 minutes.1/12 of an hour would be 5 minutes so if you add 25 and 5 you would get 30 minutes.
1/3 + 1/12 is smaller because 1/3 of an hour is 20 minutes and 1/12 of and hour is 5 minutes and 20 and 5 is 25 minutes.

Slide #3
The pattern is the top number is just increasing by 3 each time.
3/4
6/4
9/4
12/4
15/4
18/4
21/4
24/4
27/4
30/4

Slide #4
i think that it is
4 goes into 9 is the same as 4/9
4 goes into 9 is not 9/4
im not sure if this question is right but i think i did a good job.

Whoops, forgot slide 3 and 4 (colon right bracket)

Slide 3
A pattern I noticed is if you fill in the blank spots of the bottom row in a base 10 counting,
-------
7.5
+ .75
--------
8.75

8.75 is 8 groups and .75 (3/4 remainder, = 8 3/4 = number of subs needed for the 11th part of the pattern

Slide 4

--4 goes into 9 is the same way of saying 9 divided by 4. As a fraction would be 9/4.
--4 goes into 9 IS NOT 4/9, because 4/9 is pieces out of 9 cuts. 9/4 is 2.25, because if made into a fraction would be 2 1/4. 2 1/4 does not equal 4/9 because it has 2 whole pieces and 1/4 left over. It is not the same as 4/9 where that has no whole and is less than half of the whole number.

---My bad for the 2 comments. Let's hope thats double the marks, heh

im going to talk about the first slide

1/4 + 2/4 vs. 1/6 + 3/6
[ who is greater? ]

to answer 1/4 + 2/4, we know that 2/4 is 1/2 when you simplfy it, so ill stick with that.
1/2 of a clock is the 12 to the 6, which is 30 minutes, because there is a 6 number difference between 12 and 6, you x5 because there are 5 minutes between each number.

1/4 goes to the 3 on a clock. 3 x 5 = 15

30 + 15 = 45 = 3/4 on a clock

1/6 + 3/6 (3/6 is 1/2 and 1/2 is 30)
there are twelve numbers in a clock, and half of taht is 6. 1/6 is 10 minutes on a clock
30 + 10 = 40 = 2/3 on a clock, so 1/4 + 2/4 > 1/6 + 3/6

slide 3
for the people part, the pattern is it goes up by one, and for the subs part, you start with 3/4 and you just keep adding 3 to the numberator

slide 4..
4 goes into 9 is the same as division. in division you try to figure out how many times a number fits into another number.. 4 fits into 9 2 times with a remainder leftoverwhich is 1/4 since 1 out of 4 pieces of 4 don't fit in.

4 goes into 9 is not.. this makes no sense to me ._.

i guess.. its not.. an improper fraction, like 9/4 wow harbeck..

OMG! I feel I'm gonna write a book again.Anyways time to do some math.

Slide 1 (1/4+2/4 vs 1/6+3/6):

Part 1
The firt thing you do is add 1/4 abd 2/4. Since they have the same denominator you can turn it to 3/4 just by adding them, but now you have to find out what 3/4 of a clock is. So what you do is divide the clock into 4 equal pieces. For each piece it will equal a time of 15 minutes. Since th fraction is 3/4 all you do now is multiply 15 by and you get 45 minutes. So that means 1/4 + 2/4= 45 minutes out of 60 minutes.

Part 2
Now what you do is find out what 1/6 + 3/6 equals. So since there denominators are the you can multiply both numerators and denominators by two an you get:

1x2= 2 6x2= 12
So 1/6 turns to 2/12.

Now you have to do the same thing for 3/6.

3x2= 6 6x2= 12
So 3/6 turns to 6/12.
So you new fractions are 2/12+6/12

I multiplied them to make it easier since a clock has 12 marks and for each mark it equals 5 minutes. So 2x5= 10 and 6x5=30.
So 30+10= 40 minutes. Now it shows that 1/6 + 3/6= 40 minutes.

Part 3
Now that you know what each fraction equalls all you do is compare to see which one is more.
1/4 + 2/4= 45
1/6 + 3/6= 40

45>40 which means that 1/4 + 2/4 is bigger than 1/6 + 3/6.

Whoa thats a lot of writing for ones slide. Now to get to the other two.

Slide 3
The patterns I see are that the peeps are going up by 1 each time and the top is adding 3 to the numerator each time while the denominator stays at 4 if you're doing it as an improper fraction.
If you're doing it was a mixed fraction It's like youre adding 0.75 each time. For example
1peep 3/4= 0.75

2peeps 1 and 1/2= 1.50

3peeps 2 and 1/4= 2.25

See what I mean It's like you're adding 0.75 each time. For the 11th sub you'll need 33/4. I got that since the pattern is multiply the number of people by 3 and thats the numerator while the denominator is 4 every time this is only if you're using the improper version way.
If you're using the mixed fraction way the answer for the 11th one would be 8 and 1/4. I got that by multiplying 0.75 by 11 and getting 8.25 which is 8 and 1/4 as a fraction. Pheewwwww just one more slide to go.

Slide 4
4 goes into 9 is the same as.....
9 divided by 4 and 9/4 when your dividing your trying to see how much a number goes into a number, in this case how many times 4 goes into 9. It's also the same as 9/4 because that's what it looks like as a fraction.

4 goes into 9 is NOT........
2 and 1/4 because that's what the answer would be and not the question. The question is 4 goes into 9 and that is 9 divide by 4. 4 goes into 9 is the question, not the answer which is 2.25 a.k.a. 2 and 1/4.

Holy Snap!
I started this comment at like 8:15 and it took me like almost 45 minutes to comment. I hope someone reads this or else I just wasted 45 minutes.
Writing books is the way I express myself since I don't talk much in math class.

P.S. they should really change that publish your comment button to publish your book.

Hii i fell asleep at the computer last night . . . so i'll do this now.

Slide 1* 1/4 + 2/4 OR 1/6 + 3/6
There are a few ways to do this. First find out what 1/4 is out of 60 because there are 60 minutes on the clock counted by 5 min and there is a marker for every 5 minutes, so there are 12 markers. Anyway we find out 1/4 first because its simple and its a unit fraction. you can look at the clock and just divide it into four equal pieces. OR divide 12 by the denominator to find out what marker it goes on ( this stratagy only works with unit fractions ).So now we know that 1/4 goes on the 3 which is 15 minutes, since the other fraction is 2/4 you can just double you answer for 1/4 and then add the both of them together like so.
15min+30min=45
So we get 45 minutes for 1/4 and 2/4.
now we can just repeat the stratageys that we used earlier with the unit fraction. So if we do that, then we should find out that 1/6 goes on the marker 2 which is 10 minutes. Now we just multiply that 3 times to get 3/6.
So we get a total of 40 minutes for 1/6 and 3/6. So that means 1/4 + 2/4 is larger than 1/6 + 3/6

Slide 3*

People SUbs
1 3/4 =3/4
2 6/4 =1 2/4
3 9/4 =2 1/4
4 12/4 =3
5 15/4 =3 3/4
6 18/4 =4 2/4
7 21/4 =5 1/4
8 24/4 =6
9 27/4 =6 3/4
10 30/4 =7 2/4
11 33/4 =8 1/4

That chart shows all of the posible answers to that from 1-11.
This looks like this because each person gets 3/4 of a sub so theres a pattern of the numerator increasing by 3. So for the eleventh person you would need 33/4 sub so 9 subs and you would have 3/4 left over for the 12 person.

Slide4*
4 goes into 9 is the same as . . .
9 divided by 4 and 9/4, when your dividing, your trying to see how many times a number goes into a number, in this case, how many times 4 goes into 9. It's also the same as 9/4 because that's what it would look like as a fraction.

4 Goes into 9 is not . . .
2 1/4 because that's what the answer would be and not the question. The question is 4 goes into 9 and that is 9 divide by 4.

1/4+2/4 is larger than 1/6+3/6 because if you use a clock there is 60 minutes in an hour so 60 divided by 4 =15 minutes
so 2/4 is 15+15=30 so it's 45/60

1/6+3/6 is a 60 minutes dividd by 6 =10minutes
and 3/6 is 30 minutes
30 + 10=40/60

Slide 2
5/12+1/12 and 1/3+1/12
60 divided by 12 =5 mminutes so 1/12 is 5 and 5/12 is 25 so all together it =30/60
1/3+1/12 is 60 divided by 3=20 minutes and 1/12 is 5 minutes so aqll together it =25

5/12+1/12 is larger

Slide 3
the pattern i see is 3/4 then 6/4 thwe denominator stays the same but the numerator is going up by 3

the 11 person would get 33/4

Slide 4

4 goes into 9 is the same as
4/9
